Lauree Laing
Lauree was born in London, Ontario, but spent her childhood and
teen years growing up in Guelph. It was there, at John F. Ross C.V.I.,
that her love for both Theatre Arts and the beauty and breadth of
the English language took a life-long hold upon her. She credits
and thanks Mrs. Kay McKie (Drama grades 10 through 13) and Mrs.
Margaret Settle (grade 13 English) for guiding her to this wondrous
place.
After receiving a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Radio and Television
from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute (as it was in 1980) Lauree
spent many years writing advertising and promotional copy for assorted
companies.
She has spent most of her adult life involved in Community Theatre
and has acted, to critical acclaim, throughout eastern and central
Ontario, including with The Ottawa Little Theatre, The Dundas County
Players, and R.A.P.A. amongst others. She has also been a crew member
for several productions and has always been the "go to"
person to write original sketches (comic and dramatic), and speeches
as needed.
Her husband Douglas is both a graphic and fine artist. They have
three children; a son in The Royal Canadian Regiment, and two daughters,
one at college and the youngest a high school senior.
They share their Winchester, Ontario home with two delusional cats
and a moose-sized mongrel of mysterious parentage...
Lauree loves gardening and reading, especially biography and historical
fiction. A proud, but by no means "ordinary Canadian"
(she detests hockey, beer and winter in equal measure) she cites
her influences as follows:
"The Bronte girls for teaching me to lead with the heart;
the Python boys for demonstrating how to lead with the intellect;
and Oscar Wilde who proved that the two need not be mutually exclusive."
